Survey of Nov. 23, 2000

The question was :

If each person has to pay tax for living each day of their lives, what may be the major effects?

Thank you all for your creative answers :

The answers can be summarized as :

(A) Positive effects :

(1)  The people will become more hardworking
(2)  If rich and poor people have to pay the same amount in tax, which is moderately high, then poverty may eventually vanish because the poor won't be able to survive; those who survive will struggle and become rich
(3)  The productivity of the nation will go up, and hence its economic condition will become better
(4)  All the citizens will be tax-paying citizens; all contributers to the nation
(5)  Population will eventually go down, since people will be more cautious in giving birth to new child
(6)  People will become more self-dependent
(7)  Price rise

(B) Negetive effects :

(1)  Increase in crime rate
(2)  Increase in suicide rate
(3)  Life will become mechanical; no leisure moments to enjoy
(4)  The freedom of life will be taken away
(5)  People will try to hide their identity and that of their children for tax evasion

There may also be no effect at all since most of us pay tax indirectly each day we live.

Question of the next survey (Nov. 30, 2000) :

If genetic engineering gives the power of speech to animals, will their relationship with human beings improve, degrade or remain the same. Why?
